MODULES

Costume Design

In this module, you will be introduced to a range of creative, practical and theoretical approaches within the subject of fashion design for womenswear as well as menswear, allowing you to develop a preparatory body of knowledge and skill. You will be introduced to the importance of research as the basis for the creative development of ideas for a range of fashion products. You will conduct and evaluate the design cycle, develop ideas and learn to employ the appropriate fashion drawing techniques for the presentation/illustration of concepts within the context of fashion design. This module will also give you an understanding of what the fashion product is, why consumers buy fashion products and the value-added function of the selling environment. The unit will demonstrate the concept generation stage through market research, product/service augmentation, advertising and promotion. It aims to help you develop an appreciation and a critical attitude to information regarding fashion markets available in a range of media. It also aims to provide you with the ability to analyze interpret and present financial and numerical information.

The module will introduce you to the following key skill sets and approaches to learning:

  • The role and responsibility of the costume designer
  • Historical research
  • How to read the script or screenplay and interpret the costume requirements
  • Understanding and getting a feel of the characters
  • Designing a costume scheme with sketches

Bridal Wear

This module will introduce you to a range of creative, practical and theoretical approaches within the subject of bridal wear, allowing you to develop a preparatory body of knowledge and skill. You will be introduced to the importance of inspiration and research as the basis for the creative development of ideas for a range of occasion/event wear. You will conduct and evaluate the making/construction processes, develop ideas for combining looks, and learn to employ the appropriate fabrication techniques for the representation of ideas within the context of bridal wear design.

The module will introduce you to the following key skill sets and approaches to learning:

  • Inspiration for making wedding clothes
  • Making: fabrication, toile, the fitting session
  • Combining the look: Hair, make up, accessories, footwear

MultiChannel Retail

In this module, Manish Malhotra will help you identify target customer profiles and take you through product promotion and monitoring of sales. You will also learn the ins and outs of online merchandising and retail processes. You will be shown an overview of retail industry opportunities, including e-commerce, stock movement, press marketing and sales management.

VisualMerchandising

In addition to the study of Window display, Visual Merchandising, Mannequin Styling and Store Layout principles, you will gain first-hand, practical industry insider knowledge and insight into the many different roles of a modern day Visual Merchandiser.

The module will introduce you to the following key skill sets and approaches to learning:

  • Basic principles of window dressing and visual merchandising
  • Store visual merchandising and product presentation methods
  • Building and creating your own Window Designs using your choice of program
  • Current trends in the Retail Industry
  • Catwalk trends
  • Merchandise selection and accessories
  • Customer flow and the importance of store layout
  • Colour, POS and lighting
  • Mannequin handling and styling
  • Creating an effective Sale & Clearance campaign
  • Working with mood boards

Preparation For Fashion Week

The module will take you through what Fashion Week entails for fashion designers; from designing their collection to securing sales from retailers. It provides detailed guidelines showing how the designer can optimise their collections to appeal to the Buyers, Talent Scouts and Press, firstly by creating their target customer profile, then identifying their target retailers, fashion editors and publications, designing the collection and range planning through to sourcing PR and Sales Agents and then putting on their show and setting up their showroom.

The module provides the pros and cons of a fashion show versus a presentation, and the detailed process for producing both, from sourcing the venue, stylist and hair and makeup artists to casting models, choosing the music and lighting and inviting the right guests.

Styling

In addition to the study of style tribes, trends and current designer collections, you will gain first-hand,practical industry knowledge and insight into the many different roles of today's stylists. You will also learn about fashion editorials, fashion shows and catwalks, commercial work and the music industry.

Illustration

This module will introduce you to a range of creative, practical and theoretical approaches within the subject of visualization/illustration, allowing you to develop a preparatory body of knowledge and skill. You will be introduced to the importance of design representation as the basis for the creative development of ideas for a range of fashion products. You will evaluate colour theory, develop figure drawing techniques and learn how to employ appropriate sketching techniques for the presentation of fabric ideas. This module will also give you an understanding of what sketching and illustration for reportage are; furthermore, why live sketching and a knowledge of the human anatomy are great advantages.
